Located directly across from the Commonwealth Park Suites Hotel is the Virginia State Capitol. The Capitol was designed by Thomas Jefferson and modeled after the Maison Carry in Nimes, France. Williamsburg and the James River plantations are within an hour's drive east. To the west lies Monticello and Ashlawn, the homes of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, respectively.

Guests enjoy the shopping and nightlife of historical Shockoe Slip, the city's oldest business district. More than two hundred years ago, Shockoe Slip served as Richmond's center of commerce and politics. Today, restored tobacco warehouses provide shopping and dining for visitors. In the evening, Shockoe Slip provides visitors with clubs, live entertainment, and dancing.

History buffs will enjoy visiting the Museum of the Confederacy as well as the many civil war battlefields in Richmond and the outlying areas.

A few blocks from the Commonwealth Park Suites Hotel is the newly revitalized Canal Walk and the reconstructed Kanawha Locks. They are part of our nation's first commercial artery to the west, a waterway originally surveyed by George Washington.
